NC Film Industry Book Rentals and Books to Movies

NC Film Book Shelf Flag

So we've had a couple of people ask us why we keep putting notices up on Twitter and Facebook about movies renting our books, "Over and over - like, big deal! We know already!"

Well, there are a couple of reasons that we do this. The first is as a service to our customers. If the entire Science Section (Piranha 3D) or all of Fiction “B” (Safe Haven) have gone away for a month - we want you to know so that you don't come in looking for science books or fiction by “Authors Ba- By” only to be disappointed. So we put up a notice letting you know - not that we don’t want to see you, we just don’t want to disappoint you.

The second reason is that we do this “over and over” is that we are really, really grateful to the film industry for all the money they spend in our area. We want to tell them thank you - but we also want to draw attention to the continuing influx of money that the industry brings here - to businesses across the spectrum. Chances are that bookstores are probably not the first beneficiary of the Film Incentive Package that you thought of. But for us, the film industry has been instrumental in keeping our doors open.

With that in mind and the constant curiosity about movies, we have started tagging books in the store that were made into movies in NC. They've got handy-dandy shelf flags that let you know where they were filmed. Some of the titles might surprise you:

The Hunt for Red October (The last scene was filmed in Burke County)

The Last of the Mohicans

The Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Cat's Eye

.... and many more. The North Carolina Film Junkie's Guide by Connie Nelson (which we carry) is a great resource.

Of course the current book to screen offering is Under The Dome!
