Manly Reading @ The He-Cathalon

"You must read a lot..." several times a week someone says this as they wander through the bookstore.

"I read a book a day,” I confirm.

"A BOOK A DAY?" is the usual response. The level of shock used to surprise me, but not anymore. Reading is just like any other muscle- the more you strengthen it the more it can do. I can not, for example, either do a chin up or run a mile. Seriously, I can not do either of those things. As for my book that I read a day, it's an average. There are days that I read more than that and days I read less. Like many readers I have several books "going" at once, so I usually finish at least a book a day, if not more.

Men Ink. Magazine (www.menink.com) is holding their second annual He-Cathalon this weekend and the bookstore is one of the event locations. Besides hitting the bull's eye and sinking an eight ball contestants will come by Old Books on Front St. and read aloud some "Manly Prose". It's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate some of our great authors and to introduce people to the waning art of reading aloud. It's also a blend of athleticism and brains which is a beautiful goal to strive for no matter what your gender.

We really enjoyed being part of this last year and we are really excited to be included again. Thank you Dave, Mike, Randy, Jeff and “The Guys!“ The event is in the afternoon, please come by if you have time and cheer the contestants on!
