Rich Dolinger and Shawna Kenney discuss their new photo book/oral history Live at the Safari Club: A History of HarDCore Punk in the Nation's Capital 1988-1998 (Rare Bird Lit), an idea germinated during Kenney's time in graduate school in UNCW's Department of Creative Writing. Live at the Safari Club is the uncensored oral history of a notorious underground punk venue in the nation’s capital, told by the very bands, fans, zinesters, promoters, graffiti artists, scenesters, senators’ kids and activists who made it happen.

Craig Kittner and Elizabeth Gordon will host several gatherings throughout September to bring creative people together in the spirit of hope. Through exquisite corpse games, we will create poems to uplift and energize our community. At 11:00 am on Saturday, September 30, we will come together at Old Books on Front Street, to display and read the resulting poems. Music and additional readings, in an open mic format, will also be shared. Many negative things have come out of North Carolina as of late. We shall strike a positive spark.
